There are several different methods that can be used to create a forecast. The method a forecaster chooses depends upon the experience of the forecaster, the amount of information available to the forecaster, the level of difficulty that the forecast situation presents, and the degree of accuracy or confidence needed in the forecast.
The first of these methods is the persistence method; the simplest way of producing a forecast. The persistence method assumes that the conditions at the time of the forecast will notChange. For example, if it is sunny and 87 degrees today, the persistence method predicts that it will be sunny and 87 degrees tomorrow. If two inches of rain fell today, the persistence method would predict two inches of rain for tomorrow. However, if weather conditions change significantly from day to day, the persistence method usually breaks down and is not the best forecasting method to use.
The trends method involves determining the speed and direction of movement for fronts, high anD、low pressure centers, and areas of clouds and precipitation. Using this information, the forecaster can predict where he or she expects those features to be at some future time. For example, if a storm system is 1,000 miles west of your location and moving to the east at 250 miles per day, using the trends method you would predict it to arrive in your area in 4 days. The trends method works well when systems continue to move at the same speed in the same direction for a long period of time. If they slow down, speed up, change intensity, or change direction, the trends forecast will probably not work as well.
The climatology method is another simple way of producing a forecast. This method involves averaging weather statistics accumulated over many years to make the forecast. For example, if you were using the climatology method to predict the weather for New YorkCity on July 4th, you would go through all the weather data that has been recorded for every July 4th and take an average. The climatology method only works well when the weather pattern is similar to that expected for the chosen time of year. If the pattern is quite unusual for the given time of year, the climatology method will often fail.
The analog method is a slightly more complicated method of producing a forecast. It involves examining today’s forecast scenario and remembering a day in the past when the weather scenario looked very similar (an analog). The forecaster would predict that the weather in this forecast will behave the same as it did in the past. The analog method is difficult to use because it is virtually impossible to find a perfect analog. Various weather features rarely align themselves in the same locations they were in the previous time.Even small differences between the current time and the analog can lead to very different results.

4题:In old days, when a glimpse of stocking was looked upon as something far too shocking to distract the serious work of an office, secretaries were men.
Then came the first World War and the male secretaries were replaced by women.A、man’s secretary became his personal servant, charged with remembering his wife’s birthday and buying her presents; taking his suits to the dry-cleaners; telling lies on the telephone to keep people he did not wish to speak to at bay and, of course, typing and filing and taking shorthanD、
Now all this may be changing again. The microchip and high technology is sweeping theBritish office, taking with it much of the routine clerical work that secretaries diD、
"Once office technology takes over generally, the status of the job will rise again because it will involve only the high-powered work and then men will want to do it again."
That was said by one of the executives (male) of one of the biggest secretarial agencies in this country. What he has predicted is already under way in the US. One girl described to me a recent temporary job placing men in secretarial jobs in San Francisco. She noted that all the men she dealt with appeared to be gay so possibly that it was just a new twist to the old story.
Over here, though, there are men coming onto the job market as secretaries.Classically, girls have learned shorthand and typing and gone into a company to seek their fortune from the bottom-and that’s what happened to JohnBowman.Although he joined a national grocery chain as secretary to its first woman senior manager, he has since been promoted to an administration joB、
"I filled in the application form and said I could do audio/typing, and in fact I was the only applicant. The girls were reluctant to work for this young, glamorous new woman with all this power in the firm."
"I did typing at school, and then a commercial course. I just thought it would be useful finding a joB、I never got any funny treatment from the girls, though I admit I’ve never met another male secretary. But then I joined the Post Office as a clerk and carelessly played with the typewriter, and wrote letters, and thought that after all secretaries were getting a good £21,000 a year more than clerks like me. There was a shortage at that time, you see."
"It was simpler working for a woman than for a man. I found she made decisions, she told everybody what she thought, and there was none of that male bitchiness, or that stuff ’ring this number for me dear, ’ which men go in for. "
"Don’t forget, we were a team-that’s how I feel about it-not boss and servant but two people doing different things for the same purpose.
Once high technology has made the job of secretary less routine, will there be male takeover Men should beware of thinking that they can walk right into the better jobs. There are a lot of women secretaries who will do the job as well, as they are as efficient and well-trained to cope with word processors and computers as men.
Before the first World War, female secretaries were rare because they ______.A.wore stockings
B.were not as serious as men
C.were less efficient than men
D.would have disturbed the other office workers

5题:Another example of the exercise of power byCongress was the action it took during the Reconstruction Period after theCivil War. It has already been noted that President Johnson favored a lenient policy toward the South and attempted to carry out Lincoln’s "10 percent plan". He pardoned most of the Southern leaders and permitted them to restore their state governments. They were permitted to elect Senators and Representatives.
Congress, however, led by the Radical Republican Thaddeus Stevens, had other ideas about the handing of the defeatedConfederacy.Congress favored punitive policies. The South should be treated as conquered territory, and its readmission should be handled byCongress rather than the President.Congress opposed the "Johnson Governments" and the "BlackCodes" passed by Southern states which virtually restored former slaves to their masters.Accordingly, it passed the ReconstructionAct of 1867. This measure divided the South into five military districts and provided that a seceded state would be readmitted in the Union only after it had ratified the 14thAmendment which provided that all persons born or naturalized in the United States should be citizens of the United States and of the state in which they resided, granted equality before the law to all persons, and prohibited a state from depriving any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.Congress also barred rebel leaders from federal office, repudiated theConfederate debt, and reduced the representation of states which barred qualified persons from voting. Later it adopted the 15thAmendement guaranteeing the Negroes the right to vote.
Johnson vigorously opposed these measures. He vetoed the ReconstructionAct and others, only to seeCongress repass them over his veto. After such passage of the Tenure of OfficeAct, Johnson, believing it unconstitutional, violated it and removed a member of hisCabinet without consultingCongress. The House of Representatives proceeded to impeach Johnson. The Senate, however, failed, by one vote, to reach the two-thirds majority necessary for his removal.
The title below that best expresses the main idea of this passage is ______.
A、The Impeachment of President Johnson
B.The Reconstruction Period
Conflict between President Johnson andCongress
D.
A、Lenient President
