One man with short hair and beautiful eyes stepped into the wonderful hall of theBell Tower Hotel in Xi’an on his bike on June 21 , 1992. The hotel employees entertained him and called the manager, since they had never seen a bike before, although they lived in the so-called "the kingdom of bicycles".
R. Friedlander, who wasAmerican, reached Xi’an on his own bike trip, which started in NewDelhi, India lastDecember.At the age of eleven, he read the book Marco Po/o and then determined to pay a visit to the famous Silk RoaD、Forty-four years later, he was on the Silk Road and finally realized his previous dream. His next destinations (目的地) included Lanzhou,Dunhuang, Urumqi (乌鲁木齐). His trip would end up in Pakistan. During his following trips, he would also choose to rest at different types of hotels. If possible, he might come to visit the local people’s houses and stay with them for a few days. For his part, stepping on the places he dreamed was not his only goal.
